BLINN OFFERS SKILLS TRAINING COURSES IN NAVASOTA
Courses include customer service, computer skills, cash register skills, career readiness, CPR, and OSHA 10
The Blinn College District is offering a variety of skills training courses at the Navasota Center. Courses include CPR, Basic Customer Service, Basic Computer Skills, Cash Register Skills, OSHA 10 and Career Readiness.
“Training of this nature gives potential new hires a competitive advantage and marketable skill sets,” said Jay Anderson, Dean of Technical and Community Education.
A one-day, seven-hour CPR National Safety Council course will be offered Wednesday, July 25, and Monday, Aug. 20, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The $60 course provides hands-on training to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies.
Two-day Basic Customer Service courses will be offered July 26-27 and August 15-16 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The $75 courses place a high priority on effective listening skills, verbal communication skills, nonverbal communication skills, and communicating over the phone. The course is designed for anyone who serves customers on a daily basis.
Basic Computer Skills teaches computer basics such as email, typing, and online job searching. The course also covers Microsoft’s Word and Calendar programs. The one-day, $65 courses meet from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, and Tuesday, Aug. 21.
A one-day Cash Register Skills (Mathematics) course will take place Wednesday, Aug. 1, and Thursday, Aug. 23, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This $65 course covers decimals, dollars and cents, providing change, and accepting cash.
The OSHA 10 course is available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 2-3 and Aug. 30-31. The OSHA program provides training on general industry safety, and includes hazard identification, avoidance control and prevention, and a presentation of applicable OSHA standards. The course costs $100.
On Wednesday, Aug. 8, a Career Readiness course will be offered from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The $60 course covers written communication, professional dress, professional etiquette, resumes and career awareness. It is designed for those looking to move up in an organization or those entering the workforce who want to further development their workplace skills.
All courses aside from Basic Computer Skills will be located at the Navasota Center (101 Stadium Drive). The Basic Computer Skills course will be located at the Grimes County Workforce Solutions Center located at 109 Rattler Drive in Navasota.
Blinn’s technical and community education courses provide students the knowledge and skills they need to enter the workforce immediately after completion. Many of these courses do not require a high school diploma and enrollment is fast and easy. Programs vary in length and are offered with daytime, evening, and weekend options.
Business owners can enroll their employees in Blinn Technical and Community Education courses using Texas Workforce Commission Skills Development and Skills for Small Business funds, and Blinn staff can help businesses complete the request form. Blinn also offers students access to scholarships through the Blinn College Foundation, private grants, and Workforce Solutions.
