LOCAL MURDER TRIAL DELAYED

Michael Charles Dixon
(Washington Co. Jail)

The first trial of the four suspects in the murder of Blinn College student Trey Kurtz has been delayed.

The trial of Michael Dixon has been delayed after Washington County District Attorney Julie Renken filed the motion.

Renken cited the discovery of new evidence for the request from Judge Reva Towslee Corbett.

Dixon is one of four suspects charged with capital murder in the death of Kurtz, whose body was found October 30th of 2014, at the intersection of Seelhorst and Dark streets, in Brenham.  Prosecutors believe Dixon fired the shots that killed Kurtz.

The motion involves the discovery of a photo of Dixon wearing a cap, similar to one found at the scene.  The delay is for the expedition of DNA tests on the cap.

Following the court’s approval, Dixon’s trial has been rescheduled for Sept. 10 at 9 a.m.

Also charged with capital murder are Jordan Alexander Graves, J.B. Wright III and Deperrion Lott.

Lott is scheduled to stand trial on Oct. 15 at 9 a.m.  Graves’s trial will be set for early 2019, while Wright’s case is still pending.
