A Brenham barbeque pitmaster will appear in an upcoming tournament on the Food Network.

Leonard Botello IV, owner of Truth Barbeque on Highway 290 West, is part of the 2018 “Chopped Grill Masters” tournament on the Food Network.

The first episode of the tournament, airs tomorrow (Tuesday).  The episode that includes Botello runs Tuesday, August 21st at 8 p.m.

The popular series challenges chefs to prepare dishes using ingredients in “mystery boxes.”

The Grill Masters tourney will feature chefs from four regions of the U.S.: Kansas City; North Carolina; Memphis; and Texas.  They will compete for a cash prize and hometown bragging rights.

Courtney White, general manager and executive vice president of programming for the Food Network says this season of ‘Chopped Grill Masters’ is more competitive than ever before.

Botello’s Truth Barbeque was named to the top-10 in Texas Monthly’s latest list of the 50 best barbecue restaurants in the state.

The finale will air Aug. 28 at 8 p.m., with the winning chef receiving a $50,000 prize.

Botello is forbidden to say how he fared in his episode, which was taped earlier this spring.
