SENATOR KOLKHORST SELECTED FOR STATE WATER ADVISORY COMMITTEE

State Senator Lois Kolkhorst of Brenham has been appointed to the state water infrastructure bank.
Kolkhorst was appointed by Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick to the State Water Implementation Fund for Texas (SWIFT) Advisory Committee.
The committee looks at the use of funds to provide financing for water infrastructure projects across the state.
As a senior member of the Senate Finance Committee, Kolkhorst will serve as the financial appointee.
Projects are approved based on recommendations by the seven-member advisory committee, which includes the Texas Comptroller, three senators chosen by the Lieutenant Governor, and three representatives selected by the Speaker of House.
Kolkhorst says she is honored to accept the position, saying water will continue to play a major role in the state’s growth. She also believes SWIFT will be a key part of solving future challenges.
SWIFT has committed over $5.6 billion for projects in Texas since it was created in 2013. It is designed to support around $27 billion in funding for regional water supply projects over 50 years. Kolkhorst is the first female lawmaker to be appointed to SWIFT since its creation.
Good stuff. I have knowledge that SWIFT is a successful program used by many cities and counties to help pay for projects so there is less cost to local property taxes. This is another great achievement for Senator Kolkhorst. I hope our other local leaders will look into this program when needed.
