SATURDAY’S ‘WALK WITH A DOC’ OBSERVING CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS MONTH
To observe Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September, local residents are invited to come out to Fireman’s Park this Saturday to “Walk with a Doc.”
This month, the program will feature presentations from Adam’s Angels, an organization dedicated to financially, emotionally, and spiritually helping children through their battle with cancer. Adam’s Angels serves Washington and surrounding counties.
The organization was founded by Tim and Donna Culliver in 2004, after their son, Adam, died of childhood cancer in January 2003.
Adam’s Angels board member Alesia Whaley says there will be several pediatricians on hand, to discuss the impact of cancer on children and available treatments. According to Whaley, childhood cancer is the number one disease killer of children, with 46 kids a day diagnosed with cancer, and 49 dying from it each week.
Pediatrician Dr. Jennifer Jones, with Baylor Scott and White – Brenham Clinic, says everyone is invited out to Saturday’s event.
