FAYETTE CO. CHASE END WITH STANDOFF/SUICIDE

  

A police chase and standoff ended with the death of the driver Sunday afternoon in Fayette County.

Sheriff Keith Korenek says dispatch received a report from Brazoria County about a homicidal and suicidal subject who was possibly in Fayette County.  Dispatchers were told the suspect, a convicted felon, had threatened to kill a woman, her children, and her mother.

They also reported the suspect was in possession of two hand guns, and had felony warrants out for his arrest.

The suspect was found in LaGrange, and a pursuit ensued, involving: Fayette County Deputies, LaGrange Police and DPS Troopers.

The chase eventually ended in Bastrop County when the vehicle ran over tire spikes and came to a stop.

A standoff ensued when the suspect refused to surrender.  Eventually, officers heard shots fired and found the suspect dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The name of the suspect is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
