The Washington County Firefighter’s Association (WCFFA) recently held a three-day emergency vehicle training course at the Fairgrounds.

Classroom training covered Texas law concerning emergency vehicles, driver’s license requirements, and accident statistics.  Classroom training took two days, and was followed by a driving skills course.

During the driving course, firefighters practiced avoiding obstacles, three point turning in small spaces, vehicle clearance, reverse driving, and other exercises.

Each of the volunteer fire departments in Washington County were represented by the WCFFA at the course.

WCFFA Class Coordinator Doug Zwiener said this training is now required under the new county plan recently approved by county commissioners and fire departments.  He said the added training helps keep firefighters and the public safe.
