WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS COURT SEES CHANGES

  

The Washington County Commissioners Court will look decidedly different in January.

For Precinct 2 Washington County Commissioner, Republican Candice Bullock defeated Democrat Ira Newsome in Tuesday night’s General Election. Bullock finished with 2,906 votes, to Newsome’s 698.

Bullock says her core supporters played a big role in this election, as well as her efforts to meet with members of the community.

 

In addition, new County Judge John Durrenburger will take office in January, after running unopposed in this election. Durrenburger defeated current County Judge John Brieden in the March Primary.

In the race for State Representative of District 13, Republican incumbent Ben Leman defeated Democratic challenger Cecil Webster. Leman finished with 51,073 votes, compared to Webster’s 13,471.

Leman says he’ll continue to work with the community, as he prepares for legislative session in January.

 

Webster congratulates Leman on his victory, and pledges to work with him to address all the concerns of voters in District 13. He also says while he may or may not run again in 2020, he’s confident that there will be plenty of qualified candidates to serve the district.

Washington County Clerk Beth Rothermel says the county had an overall turnout of 58 percent of registered voters for this mid-term election. She notes that 72 percent of everyone that cast ballots did so during early voting, more than ever for the county.  Including by-mail ballots, 9,823 voted early, while 3,726 voted on Election Day.
