CHANGES IN ‘FRATERNITY CULTURE’ AT TEXAS A&M
Officials at Texas A&M University say changes are being made after the suspension a fraternity earlier this week.
Phi Gamma Delta was suspended amid allegations of hazing, alcohol and drug violations.
18-year old A&M freshman, Joseph Little of Houston died in August. An investigation into his death continues.
Officials at A&M say their new policies about hazing, drugs and alcohol have been in the works for over a month.
Texas A&M Director of Student Activities Christine Gravelle, says the university implemented a hazing task force last spring that's looking at some of the best practices across the country when it comes to hazing prevention and bystander training.
A coalition among Southeastern Conference Universities notes that a significant number of sexual assaults, sexual misconduct, and hazing are linked to fraternities and access to alcohol.
Gravelle says it's all a strategic approach to change the culture on campus.
