GRIMES CO. MAN SENTENCED ON MURDER CHARGE

A Grimes County man has been sentenced to prison for a 2017 murder.
74-year old Robert Buford was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the murder of Janet Marie Lester, a woman with whom he was in a relationship.
Buford was arrested back in February of 2017 for shooting and killing 74-year-old Janet Marie Lester, at the home they shared in Stoneham.
Gimes County Sheriff Don Sowell said Buford was intoxicated on the night of the murder, and confessed that he had retrieved a gun from a bedroom and shot Lester following a verbal argument.
Earlier this week, it took a jury just 20 minutes to find Buford guilty of first-degree murder.
It took that same jury just two hours to sentence Buford, who had claimed he shot Lester in self-defense.
