CONSTRUCTION EXPECTED TO WRAP UP SOON FOR FIREMAN’S PARK RESTROOMS
City officials expect the restroom construction project at Fireman’s Park in Brenham to soon be complete.
The restrooms have been under construction since late last year, but multiple delays have halted progress.
Public Works Director Dane Rau says facilities should be completed in less than a month.
Earlier this year, GCP Contractors of Needville declared default on their contract, less than a quarter of the way into construction. A surety company then evaluated the project, and bid it out to Thielemann Construction.
Along with the original contractor backing out, Rau says there were several other problems that stopped the restrooms from being completed sooner.
City councilmembers originally approved the restroom project in July of 2017, approving a bid of $251,500 for GCP Contractors. The new restrooms replace the old restroom structure adjacent to the kitchen building.
Just think if we could have built a traditional bathroom from the more stone looking cinderblocks which will not burn when someone lights toilet paper on fire as they have done in the past, or even built 1 building with 4 walls instead of three outhouses with 12 walls how much money we would have saved the taxpayers. Not to mention the money paid to an out of town porta-potty company, buy local right?
