Buccaneer Women open McLennan Classic with win over Hill, 86-81
Missy Archie posts season-high 27 points
WACO, Texas — Blinn College women’s basketball (6-7, 0-3) defeated Hill College, 86-81, to open the McLennan Community College Classic on Wednesday afternoon.
“It was nice to get a win after three weeks off,” said Jeff Jenkins, Blinn head coach.
Missy Archie recorded a season-high 27 points to lead Blinn’s offense. Jordan Sanders was next with 14 points, Imani Wimbish-Gay and Alexus Brigham each recorded 12 and Mariel Wade followed with 10.
The Buccaneers held a slim 23-22 lead in the opening quarter before Hill gained a 39-35 advantage at the half.
Hill held a 60-57 lead entering the final quarter, but the Buccaneers managed to outscore the Rebels 29-21 to rally for the win.
The Buccaneers will finish the McLennan Community College Classic against Collin County Community College on Thursday, Jan. 3, at 3 p.m.
Buccaneer men cruise to victory over Houston Gladiators, 102-73
Nic Tata leads Blinn with 16 points
BRENHAM, Texas — Nic Tata scored 16 points to help lead Blinn College men’s basketball (11-2, 1-2) to a victory over the Houston Gladiators, 102-73, on Wednesday night in the Kruse Center.
“We came out extremely hard at the beginning of the game to take the Gladiators out of their rhythm early and never let up,” said Scott Schumacher, Blinn head coach.
JaQuan Morris followed Tata on offense with 15 points, while Kai Tease and Matt Adams each recorded 13.
The Buccaneers came out strong in the first half to take a 57-27 lead. In the second half, Blinn added 45 points to the board for the win.
The Buccaneers will resume conference play against Bossier Parish Community College on Friday, Jan. 4, at 7 p.m. in the Kruse Center.
