FAITH MISSION SEEKS EXPERIENCED VOLUNTEERS

  

Faith Mission of Brenham is seeking the help of experienced volunteers.

One of the group’s goals for the new year is to bring in volunteers that have expertise in the areas of cooking, construction and carpentry, retail, and other industries. These experienced volunteers could help mentor younger members, and prepare them for life ahead.

Faith Mission Executive Director Reverend Randy Wells said he often talks with business owners that say it is becoming harder to find employees who want work, show up on time, and have a good attitude.

Rev. Wells cited U.S. labor stats that show, for the first time in America, there are more people receiving public assistance than there are in the work force. He said the group, even though it has been called a best practice program for college students, doesn’t want to leave anyone behind, given the need for people with vocational skills.

Faith Mission CEO J.D. Young said that retired people are an invaluable asset that could help change a young person or family’s life, given the chance.  He said over the years, he has seen people who have had no work histories be given a new start through the organization’s work training programs.

Young also said there are plenty of vocational options for people in Washington County, like the Blinn Hodde Center and Jobs for Life soft-skills training program, but many need a one-on-one mentoring relationship to help prepare them for those programs.
