WORK ON GRIMES CO. HIGHWAY EXTENSION CONTINUES

Work continues as crews prepare to extend a state highway into Grimes County.

Work began in November, as crews began clearing land for the new State Highway 249 extension.

"Segment 2" will be a 10-mile non-tolled road that goes from FM 1774 in Todd Mission to State Highway 105 near Plantersville.

Dubbed the "Aggie Highway," SH 249 will be tolled farther southeast and make for a new route to Northwest Houston.

The Texas Department of Transportation says the Grimes County portion should be finished in early 2022.

Private property is still being acquired for the project.
