LOCAL PRODUCT MALCOM BROWN WINS SECOND SUPER BOWL RING

For the second time in three years, Brenham-native Malcom Brown has won a Super Bowl ring.

Brown, a fourth-year veteran defensive tackle with the New England Patriots, had two tackles as the Patriots defeated the Los Angeles Rams, 13-3 in Super Bowl LIII, Sunday.  It was the franchise’s sixth Super Bowl, which ties the NFL record (Pittsburgh Steelers).  Brown and the Patriots tied the Super Bowl record for fewest points allowed (Dallas Cowboys defeated the Miami Dolphins 24-3 in Super Bowl VI).

Brown (6’3”, 320 lbs.) was a first-round draft pick by the Patriots in the 2015 NFL draft, and has been a starter on the defensive line since midway through his rookie year.

Brown had 39 tackles this past season, seeing action primarily on running downs.

In winning his second Super Bowl ring, Brown joins four other Texas Longhorns (Casey Hampton, Dan Neil, Terry Orr and Aaron Ross) as the only Longhorns to win multiple Super Bowls.

Brown could return to the Patriots in 2019 or head elsewhere as a free agent.

Brown was a five-star recruit from the Brenham Cubs in 2012, helping the team to four-straight trips to the playoffs and a berth in the State Championship game in 2009.
