CALDWELL MAN KILLED IN CRASH ON HIGHWAY 36 SOUTH OF MILANO
A Caldwell man was killed, and another seriously injured, Wednesday afternoon in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 36.
At around 4:30 p.m., a 2006 Dodge pickup was headed south on Highway 36, roughly three miles south of Milano, when it slowed and moved to its right onto the shoulder.
Meanwhile, a 2002 Kenworth truck-tractor semi-trailer was also driving southbound towards the Dodge, when the Dodge turned in front of the Kenworth and was struck in the driver side.
The driver of the Dodge, 77-year-old Louis Smith of Caldwell, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, 46-year-old Louis Smith Jr., also of Caldwell, was taken by ambulance to CHI St. Joseph Health Regional Hospital in Bryan, with incapacitating injuries.
The driver of the Kenworth, 26-year-old Carlos Gonzalez of Miami Beach, Florida, was not injured.
The road was blocked for about four hours, while crews investigated and cleared the site.
