BRENHAM MAIN STREET PROGRAM RECOMMENDED FOR NATIONAL ACCREDITATION

  

Brenham Main Street is one of 68 statewide Main Street programs that has been recommended for national accreditation.

The Texas Main Street Program (TMSP) of the Texas Historical Commission (THC) has recognized Brenham’s Main Street program for its yearly progress in carrying out national performance standards for a Main Street community.

Upon final approval by the National Main Street Center, Brenham Main Street will be announced as nationally accredited during the Main Street Now conference March 25-27 in Seattle, Washington.

The TMSP began in 1981, with local Main Street programs focusing on responsible use of a community’s historic assets for economic and quality-of-life benefits.

The City of Brenham has been a part of Main Street since 1983 and, according to Main Street Manager Caz Muske, over $40 million has been reinvested into Brenham’s Downtown District.  In addition, 97 small businesses and 249 jobs were created.

Brenham Main Street supports its downtown projects from proceeds raised from events like the Uptown Swirl and the Spring Eggs Art Walk.  The program offers incentive grants, social event opportunities, advice, and guidance for downtown buildings and businesses.
