McCaul received the National Distinguished Advocacy Award in recognition of his work to fight childhood cancer.  The award is presented annually to select lawmakers who demonstrate leadership in advocating for cancer-related public policy.

Past efforts of McCaul include the founding of the Childhood Cancer Caucus.  The caucus has advanced legislation like the Creating Hope Act, the RACE for Children Act, and the Childhood Cancer STAR Act, to improve treatments provided for children.

Lisa Lacasse, President of ACS CAN, said McCaul has “continuously established himself as a staunch supporter of cancer-fighting policies”.  She said, by him taking on multiple initiatives, he makes cancer a “legislative priority” and helps impact its burden across Texas.

McCaul said he will continue to fight for advancements in pediatric cancer treatment, so that “no child has to suffer due to cancer”.
