WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS SEEKING FUNDING FOR MOBILE VIDEO SURVEILLANCE TRAILER

Washington County Commissioners will consider submitting an application for additional surveillance at their meeting tomorrow (Tuesday).

The court will look at authorizing a grant application for a Homeland Security grant for a mobile video surveillance trailer.  The amount of the grant sits just under $63,000.

Emergency Management Coordinator Bryan Ruemke said this trailer can be deployed anywhere that video surveillance is needed, such as public events and the scenes of disasters or emergency situations.  He said the trailer has a retractable tower that will have mounted surveillance cameras.  The cameras will record video, which can be viewed remotely from a computer with proper access credentials.

Also in court, commissioners will look to adopt an updated Hazard Mitigation Plan.  A public hearing will be held before commissioners act on the plan.  Representatives from the county, Cities of Brenham and Burton, and Blinn College will be present at the hearing to answer any questions. Those entities will adopt the plan at a later date.

Commissioners will also hear a request from the Historical Society to close several roads from 8 a.m. April 13th through 6 p.m. April 14th. These streets include:

  • East Cedar Street, from FM 1155 approximately 200 yards to the Chappell Hill Historical Society’s Circulating Library.
  • West Sycamore Street from FM 1155 to FM 2447.
  • East Poplar Street from FM 1155 to Church Street.
  • Providence Street would allow for traffic flow north in a one-way direction as the access route.

Commissioners will also issue a pair of proclamations. The court will proclaim the month of April as Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month in the county. In addition, it will proclaim April 8-12 as Boys and Girls Club Week.

Also in court, commissioners will consider:

  • Approval of a memorandum of understanding between Washington County EMS and Patricia Carothers for 200 feet of roadway repair.
  • Formal notice for a road bore at 1011 Happy Hollow Road in Precinct 3 by PGMS-Central Washington County Water Supply Corporation.
  • A subdivision variance request for a land division on Christian Cemetery Road in Precinct 4.
  • Appointing Traci Bilski and Billy Sutherland to the Brazos Valley Council of Governments Criminal Justice Planning Committee.

Commissioners will meet tomorrow morning at 9 a.m., at the Washington County Courthouse.
