MAIFEST ROYALTY ATTIRE NOW ON DISPLAY IN DOWNTOWN BRENHAM
Various businesses in downtown Brenham are now displaying costumes from past Maifest Royalty.
There are 25 locations displaying trains, mantels, and other royal attire this year. Locations of all displays can be seen at www.maifest.org, or by visiting the Brenham Maifest Facebook page.
This year’s festivities kick off May 2nd, but there are some pre-festival activities that begin this weekend. Sunday, a polka church service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham.
Next Wednesday, May 1st, an appreciation dinner will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fireman’s Park Pavilion in recognition of the sponsors, volunteers, and friends of Maifest. Guests to the dinner are asked to RSVP by Friday by calling 979-836-5353, or emailing rrmcintyre@me.com.
Festivities really begin next Thursday, May 2nd, when the Mighty Thomas Carnival opens on the Maifestival grounds. The carnival will have rides and games available for all ages from 5 to 11 p.m. Thursday and Friday nights, and from 11 a.m. to midnight Saturday.
The Junior Maifest Coronation will be held Friday, May 3rd at 7 p.m., featuring entertainment and the presentation of the Junior King and Queen.
The Junior and Senior Parade will line the streets of downtown Brenham Saturday, May 4th, beginning at 10:30 a.m. The parade will feature children riding the floats dressed in costume to coordinate with the Junior and Senior Court themes of “Once Upon a Storytime” and “Glamour in the Great Outdoors”, respectively.
Activities will continue throughout the day at Fireman’s Park, with the Senior Maifest Coronation Saturday night at 7 p.m.
Admission is free to the Maifestival grounds on May 3rd and 4th, and includes access to activities like German music and dancing, food, beer tasting, live entertainment, and all kinds of displays of German culture.
General admission and reserve tickets for Maifest Coronation will go on sale Friday at the Atrium Building, at 105 East Main Street in Brenham. Tickets will be on sale Friday from 7 to 9 a.m. and Saturday from 10 to 11:30 a.m., and at the coronation practices during the week of Maifest.
