SPECIAL OLYMPICS TORCH PASSES THROUGH BRENHAM

The Special Olympics Torch Run made its way through Brenham this (Thursday) morning.

Law enforcement officials from across the state ran with the Special Olympics torch, taking a tour of the town. Their route this year passed by all of the downtown businesses on Main and Alamo Streets.

They also greeted students at the First Baptist Day School and Early Childhood Learning Center, exchanging high fives along the way. The Special Olympians of Brenham ISD cheered runners on from a trailer just ahead of them.

The run began at the Brenham Fire Department on North Chappell Hill Street, then headed west onto Sycamore Street followed by a right onto Cottonwood Street. The runners then took a left onto Pahl Street, headed to North Market and East Main Streets, turning around at Austin Street.

At the turnaround, they made a left onto West Alamo Street headed east, then making right turns onto Garrett, Kerr, Mangrum, and South Chappell Hill Streets before concluding back at the fire department.

The event was in preparation for the 50th Annual Special Olympics Texas’ Summer Games, taking place today through Sunday in San Antonio. For more information on the event, visit http://www.sotx.org/letr.
