WEATHER POSTPONES JUNIOR MAIFEST CORONATION

  

The weather threw cold water on Maifest festivities Thursday night, putting a sharp halt to the Junior Maifest Coronation at Fireman’s Park in Brenham.

The coronation was initially scheduled for 7 p.m., but the start was delayed to 7:30 p.m.

Children dressed in their Maifest costumes patiently waited for the start of the ceremony, while hundreds in the crowd cheered when officials announced they were attempting to still hold the event.

After the Maipole dancers opened the evening with their performance, the rest of the ceremony was called off.

Maifest Association President Catherine Kenjura said the decision was made with the children’s health and safety in mind.

Officials said the positive messages received by the royal families and directors have been “overwhelming”, and all the support is appreciated through these unfavorable circumstances.  They said the community will continue to rally together and bring together everyone’s unique talents to celebrate the youth during this Maifest.
