SEVERAL RACES TO BE DECIDED SATURDAY

Election Day has arrived, and it’s the final day to vote for the Brenham City Council, Burton School Board and Blinn College Board elections.

Blinn College races are countywide, so voters in several election precincts will need to go to two separate ballot boxes. For Blinn College, Dennis Crowson and H.F. Poehlmann are running for the Position Three seat currently held by David Sommer, who is not running for re-election.

Two races are on the ballot for Brenham City Council, including mayor and Ward Four councilmember. For mayor, incumbent Milton Tate is being challenged by former mayor and county judge Dorothy Morgan.  In the Ward Four election, incumbent Danny Goss is facing challenger Adonna Saunders.

For the Burton School Board, four candidates are running for two seats on the board: incumbents Demetrius Colvin and Jeff Harmel, and challengers Jon Johnson and Sue Pinkerton. In addition, incumbent Ande Bostain and challenger John Parffrey are running in a special election to fill the unexpired term of trustee Linda Hasten, who resigned after moving out of the district.

Washington County Clerk Beth Rothermel said where to cast ballots in this election could be “somewhat confusing”, and said voters should consult their yellow registration cards which will tell them the voting precinct and school district they are voting in. Voters can also call the Washington County Courthouse at 979-277-6200.

Voting is available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  KWHI will have live election coverage beginning at 7 p.m., when polls close.

Voting for the Burton School Board will be held at the high school lobby at 917 North Main Street (election precincts 311, 312, 410, and 413).
