UNITY THEATRE TO OPEN “BREADCRUMBS” THURSDAY

  

Unity Theatre in Brenham will take a deep dive into the effects of Alzheimer’s in its upcoming play “Breadcrumbs”.

Closing out this season’s Studio Series, “Breadcrumbs” was written in 2010 by Jennifer Haley and tells the story of a pair of troubled women: Alida, a fiction writer in her 60s, and Beth, a nurse’s aide in her late 20s. Beth does what she can to help the famous Alida, a recluse battling the onset of Alzheimer’s.

Unity Theatre Artistic Director Kate Revnell-Smith says, as flashbacks show episodes from Alida’s childhood, the background of the two women becomes blurred, and the audience is never sure what’s actually happening in reality. She says the use of projections helps enhance this feeling of uncertainty.

 

Ron Jones, the Artistic Director of Celebration Theatre in Houston, will direct the two-woman show. Revnell-Smith says this will be his first time directing at Unity Theatre, and it comes after an emotional moment in his life.

 

“Breadcrumbs” begins its run in the Studio space at Unity Theatre tomorrow (Thursday) night. The show will run through the 19^th, with show times at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and 4 p.m. on Sundays.  Tomorrow night’s preview performance will feature a talk-back with the cast and crew after the show, while the show on May 18^th will have a chat with the director prior to the performance.
