AUSTIN COUNTY GETS NEW CITY
Austin County has a new city. The residents of Gloster have voted to incorporate.
The residents of the community east of Sealy voted 65-to-11 to incorporate as a city and elected a many and two city commissioners.
Laura Meyer is Gloster’s first mayor. The new city’s first commissioners will be Henry Mlcak and John Couch.
Gloster will be a general law Class C municipality—defined as a municipality whose government structure and powers are defined by the general law of the state.
This is contrast to a charter city or a home-rule city, whose government structure and powers are defined by a municipal charter.
