Blinn College swore in three board members, including a pair of new faces, at its meeting Tuesday.

Oaths of office were administered to Charles Moser, who was re-elected to At-Large Position 1; Jim Kolkhorst, who was elected to At-Large Position 2; and Dr. Dennis Crowson, who was elected to At-Large Position 3.

Dr. Crowson defeated H.F. Poehlmann in May’s election to fill the seat formerly held by David Sommer, who did not run for re-election.

Kolkhorst ran unopposed to fill the former seat of Atwood Kenjura, who is retiring after 43 years on the board.  Moser has served four years on the board, completing an unexpired term.

The board also elected three members to two-year terms as board officers. Moser was re-elected as Board Chair, Kolkhorst was elected Vice-Chair, and Teddy Boehm was elected Secretary.

In other business, the board authorized Blinn to award a $1.27 million contract to Collier Construction for a new agricultural sciences building on the Brenham Campus.

The 6,000-square-foot building will house a livestock demonstration room, tack room, farrowing house, livestock pens, and pavilion.

The board also authorized the College to negotiate a lease agreement with the Texas A&M University System for space in the Veterinary Medicine Administration and Veterinary Medical Sciences buildings on the Texas A&M campus in College Station.

The agreement will provide expanded space for Blinn’s Veterinary Technology Program, which looks to increase enrollment to meet the state’s growing demand for veterinary technicians.
