Sheriff Thomas Norsworthy says the family of 30-year old Chester Jackson Jr. of Somerville, has his full sympathy.

Earlier in the day, Caldwell Police Chief Charles Barnes confirmed a city officer was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into alleged misconduct involving Jackson, who remains hospitalized in critical but improving condition.

Jackson was arrested back on April 19th on a public intoxication charge by a Burleson County deputy.  His family says authorities have not provided records or documents related to his arrest.

It's unknown when the Caldwell officer may have come in contact with Jackson.

His family says Jackson was released on April 20th, but remained in the jail because he was acting in a "dangerous" manner.

April 22nd, his family learned he was in the hospital on life support. The sheriff's office confirmed it was one of their own deputies who transported Jackson from the jail to the medical facility in Austin, but details on what led up to his condition remain a mystery.

SHERIFF THOMAS NORSWORTHY'S STATEMENT:

"The Burleson County Sheriff’s Office is dedicated to doing what is right, legal and ethical.  Mr. Chester Jackson and his family have our full sympathy.  Since our first contact with Mr. Jackson in 2013, we have held Mr. Jackson’s safety and well-being in highest regard as we would for any member of the community. The Burleson County Sheriff’s Office is committed to conducting a full and complete investigation into the actions and circumstances that have resulted in the current condition of Mr. Jackson, and to keeping Mr. Jackson’s family informed. At the conclusion of this investigation, all of our information will be made available to Mr. Jackson’s family and the community as appropriate."

  1. I’m not surprised about what happened Burleson, Washington, Lee And Brazos counties and all in between are like this. They have been doing black people like this. This is no secret and it’s time for a change down in that part of this world. That good old boy mentality has no place there. In a lot of the people that feel like there power has a long reach for multiple decades have been railroading black and brown people in that area look up the history its all there talk to the people they will tell you what’s been going on. But I forgot they have been telling the powers at be yall just don’t care. Now let’s see what happens now!!!!
