JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION SET FOR THIS WEEKEND IN BRENHAM

Brenham is getting ready to celebrate Juneteenth, with activities set for this weekend.

The celebration will kick off Friday with a free concert at Fireman’s Park, featuring the Brown Sugar Band. Festivities will then move to downtown Brenham the next day with the annual parade at 10:30 a.m.

Leticia Wells Murphy, of the Juneteenth Association, said people from all over Texas and even out-of-state will be participating in the parade.

After the parade and presenting this year’s royalty, activities will continue back at Fireman’s park until 4 p.m. with DJ Keith Cooper.

Murphy also said that this annual event commemorates the end of slavery.

For tickets or more information, go online to www.brenhamjuneteenth.org, visit the Washington County Historical Juneteenth Association Facebook page, or contact any Juneteenth Association member.

KWHI will have a live broadcast of the parade Saturday morning, with KTEX-106's Holly Ryder participating.

  1. I understand that it is a celebration, but I do not agree with some of the parade participants throwing crumpled dollars at some of the children in attendance. That just seems SO wrong.
