The council voted 3-2 on a conditional use permit requested by Hassell Development Inc., for a 200 foot cell service tower at the intersection of FM 379 and FM 1227.  The proposed structure would be located south of the Heritage Meadows Subdivision, not far from an existing 240 foot tower owned by SBA Communications.

After meeting with the city attorney in executive session, councilmembers opted to reject the permit, citing the proposed tower’s closeness to the right-of-way at FM 379 and FM 1227, its negative visual impact, and other potential safety concerns.

Voting against the measure were councilmembers Josh Fultz and Geoff Horn, along with Mayor Bert Miller.  Voting for it were councilmembers Bernie Gessner and Grant Holt.
