Citizens had an opportunity this (Wednesday) morning to take part in a reading of the Declaration of Independence in downtown Brenham.

A small group of people gathered at the Washington County Courthouse Gazebo for the event, which was led by Brenham lawyer Robbie Gail Charette.

Washington County Judge John Durrenberger gave the invocation before the reading, and led the prayer afterwards.

The reading of the Declaration is an annual program that was started in 2010 by Houston attorney Robert Fickman, and is now sponsored by the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.

Free pocket copies of the US Constitution and Declaration of Independence were given to those in attendance, courtesy of Charette’s law office.
