EIGHT GRADUATE FROM BLINN’S SITE SURVEY LAYOUT TECHNICIAN PROGRAM
Eight Blinn students recently completed the Site Survey Layout Technician Program at the RELLIS Campus.
The summer 2019 graduating class includes: Eric Barker, David Cline, Dahlen Coe, Jordan Duffard, Jacob Marchbanks, Samuel Mata, Jennifer Passmore, and Parker Thane.
The program provides students with the skills necessary for employment at site and field surveying crews throughout the Brazos Valley. Surveying technicians visit sites to take measurements, collect data, make maps of the Earth’s surface, and assist land surveyors.
A donation from AllTerra Central provided students with hands-on experience with almost $200,000 in state-of-the-art surveying equipment, including data collectors, GNSS receivers, topographic stations, levels and level rods, and hardware tools.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, surveying technicians earn a median pay of $44,380 per year, or $21.34 per hour. The market expects to hire an additional 6,400 technicians between 2016 and 2026, an 11 percent growth in the job market.
Technical and Community Education Dean Jay Anderson said the program provides job seekers “a convenient gateway to high-paying careers”.
