BRENHAM MAN CONVICTED OF FELONY DWI

Juan Rosales
(Washington Co. Jail)

A Brenham man has been convicted on a felony DWI charge.

43-year-old Juan Antonio Rosales was found guilty Tuesday afternoon of Driving While Intoxicated – 3rd or More Offense, by a Washington County jury.

Rosales was stopped by Brenham police in a 2017 traffic stop for unsafe driving.  During investigation, Rosales performed poorly on sobriety tests and admitted to drinking and driving.  Lab tests showed Rosales’ blood alcohol content (BAC) was 0.171, more than twice the legal limit.

The court will assess punishment at a hearing scheduled for September 26th.

Driving While Intoxicated is a third-degree felony punishable by two to ten years in prison.  A first DWI offense is typically a class B misdemeanor, but Rosales had previous DWI convictions in both Waller and Austin Counties, making the offense a felony.

Judge Carson Campbell presided over the trial.  Assistant District Attorneys Ryon Adams and Barbara Enright represented the State, while Bruno Shimek represented the defendant.

District Attorney Julie Renken said this trial and conviction will hopefully serve as a reminder to everyone to not drink and drive.
