BRYAN SOFTBALL COACH COULD BE BANNED AFTER ALTERCATION WITH UMPIRE IN BRENHAM

A youth softball coach in Bryan may be barred from returning to work with the Brazos County Softball Little League, after a recent violent incident in Brenham involving an umpire.

(Washington Co. Jail)

31-year-old Carlos Henry Tijerina of Bryan was arrested August 24th.  He is accused of punching and shoving an umpire at Hohlt Park, after an argument with that umpire and his subsequent ejection.

According to a report from the Bryan/College Station Eagle, who spoke with Brazos County Softball Little League President Dustin DuBois, the game Tijerina was ejected from was not affiliated with his organization.

However, DuBois said Little League has strict guidelines against that kind of behavior, and does perform background checks on coaches.  He said Tijerina’s coaching status will be reviewed by a league board as court proceedings move forward.

DuBois told the Eagle that Tijerina has coached softball with the Brazos County league for two years, and there have not been any violent incidents involving Tijerina in that league.  Brazos County jail records on Tijerina do not show any arrests for violent offenses.

Tijerina was charged in Washington County with Assault Causing Bodily Injury, a Class A misdemeanor punishable by $4,000 in fines and up to a year in jail.  He posted $750 bond the day after his arrest.

  1. He needs to be banned. Umpires usually don’t go out there for the money as it doesn’t pay much. Now don’t get me wrong some umpires do like the extra cash. However the umpire was right or wrong on his call doesn’t give anyone the right to Assault him/her. So I hope the prosecutor in this case prosecutes this guy to the MAXIMUM fine/jail/probation time as he deserves every bit of it.
