Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church is marking its 151st anniversary with a special service Sunday at 3 p.m., with guest pastor HR Berry of New Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Houston.

Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church is the oldest African American Baptist congregation in Brenham, and one of the first in Washington County.  It was formally organized in 1868, named in honor of Rose Armstead-Whitaker.

The celebration will feature a service with gospel preaching, music and singing, and a free fellowship dinner.

Reverend Randy Wells says Sunday’s service not only celebrates the church’s history, but also its expansion.

Rev. Wells says, with the happenings across the state, the country, and the world, faith is needed more than ever.
