WENDISH FEST TO BE HELD SEPTEMBER 22ND IN SERBIN
The 31st Annual Wendish Fest is set for later this month in Serbin.
This year’s festival will be held September 22nd at the Texas Wendish Heritage Museum and St. Paul Lutheran Church picnic grounds in Serbin, about five miles southwest of Giddings.
The festival is dedicated to celebrating and sharing the history and heritage of the Wends, who came to Texas in 1854.
Both the church and the museum will be open for tours. There will also be a meal including sausage, green beans, sauerkraut, and Wendish noodles. Other activities will include sausage stuffing, noodle making, Wendish Easter Egg decorating, blacksmithing, and even greased pole climbing.
An English worship service will be held at 8:30 a.m., and the German worship service at 10:30 a.m.
Since 2014, Wendish Fest has raised a total of $48,000 for students of Wendish heritage.
