USPS ANNOUNCES PARTIAL REOPENING OF DAMAGED NORTH HOUSTON PROCESSING BUILDING

The United States Postal Service (USPS) is working to resume full operations at its north Houston processing and distribution facility, which saw damage due to Tropical Storm Imelda.

The USPS announced Sunday it had resumed operations in a large portion of the facility, once structural engineers determined it to be safe.  It said it continues to take steps toward completely restoring normal operations.

The building was closed Thursday after a section of the roof collapsed, following heavy rains.  Its closure has caused interruptions in mail services in and around Brenham and Washington County.

Brenham’s post office does not yet have mail, and there is still no word on the status of deliveries.  No notice has been posted at the office to alert customers of the situation, as of this (Monday) morning.

According to the statement, the USPS has implemented contingency plans, and mail continues to move.  It said some temporary delays may occur, but all mail will be processed and delivered as quickly as possible.
