The Brenham ISD Education Foundation recently received a donation from an esteemed athlete with local ties.

Courtland Sutton, Brenham High School alumnus and current Denver Broncos wide receiver, donated $5,000 for the purchase of school supplies.

Sutton graduated from Brenham High School in 2014, and played football for Southern Methodist University before being drafted last year in the second round of the NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos.

While Sutton was entering the NFL in 2018, Brenham ISD was entering into a partnership with For the City, a local nonprofit organization, to set up a no-cost, back-to-school supply market to serve over 400 Washington County students in need.  This year, the effort expanded to serve over 1,000 students, and the school district projects over 2,000 students will be served in the 2020 market.

Sutton’s contribution will be used to replenish diminishing supplies in the district’s school supply market, and help ensure the success of future efforts.

Thursday, Sutton’s mother and Brenham High School alumna Phelicia Marshall visited the school supply market located inside the Brenham Community Education building.  She said Courtland “really wanted to give back to the children of our community and his hometown”.
