BLINN TO HOST VOCATIONAL NURSING INFORMATION SESSIONS
The Blinn College District invites prospective students to learn more about its face-to-face and online/blended vocational nursing programs through information sessions available on campus and online.
The online information session is available through noon Friday, March 20, 2020, at www.blinn.edu/vocational-nursing/information. Participants should allow approximately 60-90 minutes to complete the online session, which includes the same information as the face-to-face sessions. Upon finishing the online session, participants must submit a verification of completion form to begin the application process.
The Brenham Campus Vocational Nursing Program will host its face-to-face information sessions at noon in Room 205 of the Brenham Campus Arts & Sciences Building on:
- Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019;
- Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2019;
- and Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2020.
The RELLIS Campus Vocational Nursing Program will host its face-to-face information sessions at 12:30 p.m. in Room 480 of the Walter C. Schwartz Building located at 1366 Bryan Road in Bryan (map) on:
- Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019,
- and Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2020.
Participants must register for the face-to-face information sessions online at www.blinn.edu/vocational-nursing/information.
Each face-to-face session provides information about Blinn’s vocational nursing programs at the Brenham and RELLIS campuses, as well as the online/blended program. Individuals interested in applying to more than one program tract can attend either an online or face-to-face information session.
All program applicants must participate in an information session.
Blinn’s vocational nursing programs provide students the education and training needed to become highly skilled, licensed vocational nurses capable of working in a variety of medical settings. All programs include courses in the health sciences, basic nursing skills, gerontology, essentials of medication administration, mental health/mental illness, normal growth and development, vocational nursing concepts, pharmacology, pediatrics, maternal/neonatal nursing, medical/surgical nursing, professional development, and clinical courses each semester.
During the 10-month face-to-face programs, students spend approximately 40 hours per week in classroom and clinical settings. Because students devote a great deal of time to studying and preparing for class and clinicals, faculty recommend that students limit their work hours.
Blinn’s online/blended Vocational Nursing Program is a one-year program that begins each August. This program provides students the flexibility to fulfill a portion of their coursework remotely and attend face-to-face clinical and laboratory experiences at the Brenham Campus and at local hospitals and clinics.
Graduates of each program are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) and the Nursing Jurisprudence Examination and are considered licensed vocational nurses after passing both exams.
Jobs abound in a variety of settings, including home health, dialysis, hospitals, clinics, and physicians’ offices. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for vocational nurses is expected to grow 11 % between 2018 and 2028, resulting in 78,100 additional positions. In 2018, the median pay for a vocational nurse in Texas was $46,990 per year.
