The first Gilferd R. Charette Memorial Scholarship has been awarded.

Bellville’s Allison Schaff received the $2,500 scholarship, which is given to children with cancer or siblings of children with cancer.  The scholarship will help Schaff as she begins her junior year at Sam Houston State University, with goals to teach junior high school math.

The scholarship was established by Robbie Gail Charette and her mother, Helen, in honor of Helen’s husband, who died from Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2005.  Brenham’s Adam’s Angels Ministry and Brenham GameChangers helped the two find the first recipient of the scholarship.

The scholarship is intended for young adults whose family has been affected by childhood cancer; who have successfully completed 60 college credit hours and have been accepted for a next semester at a Texas university; and have graduated from high school in Washington, Austin, Brazos, Burleson, Fayette, Grimes, Lee, or Waller Counties.

Scholarship applications for the spring 2020 semester open November 1st.  To learn more, visit www.charettefoundation.org, or email info@charettefoundation.org.
