SHOPPERS ENCOURAGED TO “SHOP LOCAL” FOR SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY

The biggest shopping day in the United States is right around the corner, and businesses in Brenham and Washington County are doing their part to encourage shopping locally.

Following Black Friday is “Small Business Saturday”, a national campaign to promote shopping at locally-owned shops and stores for the holiday season.

Businesses in downtown Brenham have plenty of specials and activities to celebrate “Small Business Saturday”. Some of those include Christmas open houses at Hermann Furniture and The Pomegranate, and photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus at Timeless Designs Market.

Home Sweet Farm is celebrating its 5th Annual Chili Throwdown from noon to 3 p.m., featuring live music from The Kites, chili, beans, and Bloody Maries.  The Book Nook will have 20 percent off socks, puzzles, and loose-leaf tea, along with a $10 gift card for every $50 spent.

Anatomy Boutique will host its 10th anniversary celebration with giveaways throughout the weekend.  Organic Hemp Botanicals and Scrubs N Stuff will both have prize wheels to spin for special discounts.

Ballad of the Bird Dog will host ornament painting with Magen Bain of North to South Design. Cost is $25 for a set of two; snacks and drinks are provided.  Meanwhile, 4-Star Concert Hall will have the Rob Sturgis Band performing outdoors from 3 to 6 p.m., and Austin Meade at 9 p.m.

City of Brenham Tourism and Communications Director Jennifer Eckermann says shopping small can have a big impact.

Eckermann said it’s important to support those that contribute their own support to the local community.
