CALDWELL CITY COUNCIL HOLDS OFF ON GRANT FOR PLASTICS PLANT PROJECT

The Caldwell City Council has opted to not pursue a $600,000 grant to assist a new plastics manufacturing plant planned for the city, for now.

The council at its meeting last week held off for the time being on moving forward with the Texas Capital Fund grant, to be used for infrastructure improvements for Centex Poly Solutions.  The grant funding would be used for extension of city streets and utilities.

The company is planning to build a 35,000 to 40,000 square foot facility located on five acres next to the Burleson County Industrial Park.  The plant will hold eight to 12 injection molding machines, and is expected to create 25 to 30 jobs in the first year of operation.

City officials said the grant deadline, which passed on Tuesday, was too tight to gather all the necessary information.  The city can still apply for the grant in the 2020 funding cycle.

Burleson County Economic Development Council Executive Director Mike Sutherland said the purchase of the property and construction of the manufacturing facility is still on track.  He said the only thing that has changed is the pursuit of the grant.

The plant is expected to open in the second quarter of 2020.  A groundbreaking ceremony is planned for December.
