LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT MAKES NUMEROUS CALLS

The Brenham Fire Department was busy with several calls, Friday.

Just after 7:30 a.m., firefighters were called to the Westwood Parking lot, in the 2100 block of Highway 290 West, for a report of a vehicle locked with two small children inside.

The Fire Department was able to open the driver’s side door to gain access to the inside.  The children were unharmed.

Just after 12:00-noon, the department was called out to a motor vehicle incident in the 1400 block of West Main, near Memorial Oaks Chapel.

The department quickly cleaned up a fluid spill on the roadway.  No one was reported injured.

Then, just after 9:00 p.m. the department was called out to a report of smoke, also in the 1400 block of West Main.

Firefighters found a property owner burning in his yard.  The department advised him of an ordinance against local burning.

The fire was extinguished and the department returned to service.

  1. How many false alarms does the department get a week from the state school??? And how much does each false alarm cost the city?

    1. We are working with the State Fire Marshal Office and the Brenham State School to come up with a solution to this issue. The majority of the alarms are client related.
