BUSY DAY, SATURDAY FOR BRENHAM F.D.
Saturday proved to be a busy day for the Brenham Fire Department, with seven calls to the department. Five of the calls came in just over an hour.
Just before 2:30, the department was called on to extinguish an unattended trash fire, due to high winds, in the 1000 block of Confederate Lane, just off Highway 36 North.
Twenty minutes later the department extinguished an illegal burn in the 400 block of East Alamo.
Within minutes, the department was called to a small grass fire on Highway 290 East and Malinowski Lane. The fire was extinguished by Salem and Chappell Hill departments, because the Brenham Department was called to the 2400 block of 290 East. At the scene, they found an A/C unit had malfunctioned.
Just after 3:30, firefighters responded to a gas leak in the 900 block of Armbrister. The department turned off the gas to the house until the City Gas Department arrived.
Then, just before 5:00, the department responded to an alarm beeping from the lobby of a building at the Belle Towers Senior Living Center on North Market.
That part of the building was locked with no access. Brenham Dispatch alerted the contact person who advised it would be a while before he would be able to make location. There was no apparent emergency at the location, so FD personnel cleared the scene.
At 6:20 p.m., the department responded to South Day and Stone St for fluids leaking from a crash. BFD used absorbent on the leaking fluids.
