FAYETTE CO. CITIZENS CHARGED WITH RESISTING ARREST

Two Fayette County residents were arrested and charged earlier this week in separate incidents of resisting arrest.

Kevin McKenzie
(Fayette Co. Jail)

According to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, deputies assisted La Grange police officers Tuesday night at the Cottonwood Inn in response to a stolen vehicle following a domestic disturbance.

While searching the area, deputies observed and stopped the vehicle reported stolen within the city limits of La Grange.  The driver, 44-year-old Kevin McKenzie of La Grange, reportedly failed to comply with lawful orders and resisted arrest, but was eventually taken into custody.  McKenzie was charged with Assault Family Violence with a previous conviction, Resisting Arrest/Search/Transport, and two traffic warrants out of the city of La Grange.

Donald Smith
(Fayette Co. Jail)

Wednesday, deputies attempted to execute an arrest warrant at a home on Turkey Creek Road in the Ledbetter area.  Upon making contact with the suspect, deputies say he refused lawful orders and retreated into his residence.  Other deputies and constables, the Fayette County Narcotics Unit, and state DPS troopers arrived on scene to assist.

Contact was later re-established with the suspect, who continued to resist and refuse orders before then being tased and taken into custody.  63-year-old Donald Smith of Ledbetter was charged with Resist Arrest/Search/Transport, as well as the original arrest warrant for Criminal Trespass.
