UT-AUSTIN, BAYLOR EXTEND SPRING BREAK IN RESPONSE TO CORONAVIRUS

The University of Texas at Austin and Baylor University join the growing list of universities and colleges altering their schedules due to the novel Coronavirus.

Wednesday, both universities announced they would be extending spring break for students by one week.  Classes will resume on Monday, March 23rd for Baylor students, and on March 30th for UT-Austin students.

UT-Austin will remain open while students are gone, so faculty and staff members can prepare to increase what the university calls “social distancing” on campus.  The process will involve shifting many lectures to online instruction, reconfiguring classroom space and developing alternative instructional modes for classes that need to meet in person, and updating hygiene practices in common gathering places.

Meanwhile, while classes will resume on Monday, March 23rd for Baylor students, university officials say classes will be provided strictly in an online environment for a two-week period, running through April 3rd.  Baylor says it will continue to monitor conditions during this time period, and will make a future decision on when face-to-face instruction can resume.
