BURTON CITY COUNCIL RENEWS DISASTER DECLARATION

The Burton City Council met via teleconference this (Thursday) morning to renew the city’s local disaster declaration.

This was not the sight Thursday, as Burton City Councilmembers met via conference call to extend the city's local disaster declaration.

The council gave Mayor David Zajicek authority to extend the declaration seven days, through next Thursday.  Zajicek was also given authority to be able to renew the declaration when need be through the next 60 days, without the council having to meet.  Zajicek noted that nothing has changed from the initial declaration, which can be read here.

Councilmember Jerry Martin said he does not feel the city has done a good job communicating with Burton residents through this COVID-19 pandemic, and asked what it could do to change that.  He said this is a “high anxiety period” that no one from the city has ever dealt with before, but that the city, being in a leadership role, needs to provide better communication.

Zajicek replied that the Burton Bridge Ministry has been doing a very good job of communicating with residents, and said he would reach out to them and see what they are doing to stay in touch with people.
