BRENHAM RESTAURANTS TO OFFER FREE LUNCHES THURSDAY FOR STUDENTS

Several Brenham restaurants are offering free lunches today (Thursday) for students, following Brenham ISD’s announcement that it would suspend its drive-thru meal sites.

Pioneer Smokehouse, BT Longhorn Steakhouse, Volare Italian Restaurant, Must Be Heaven, and Las Americas Latin Cuisine are offering lunches for students grades K-12.

Santa Fe Cafe will also provide kids' lunches today for the first 50 children.  Orders can be called in ahead of time at 979-836-0573.  Children must be present in order to receive the free meals.

Curbside pickup is available for the orders, which should be called in ahead of time as there are limited amounts per location.

Late Tuesday, Brenham ISD announced an individual in the child nutrition department serving at the Alton Elementary School and Brenham High School meal delivery sites may have been exposed to COVID-19, and is now under self-quarantine.  Those two meal delivery sites, along with the site at Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church, will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.

Monday, Brenham ISD Child Nutrition Services Director Sandra Baxter told the Brenham School Board that over 18,000 meals had been handed out at the three locations.

The contact information of each of the restaurants, along with their menus today, is available in the attached image above.

  1. What a great things for these restaurants to do when we know they are hurting too!

  2. Bread Partners provides food every week at various drive through locations. The items are not “picked through” but are canned, boxed and packaged. There is bread and often dairy, meat and produce. Some of the produce is grown by the group at Presbyterian ‘s garden and picked fresh. Check their Facebook page for more information.

  3. Reading some of these comments are really maddening..PPL should be taking care of elderly, etc ALL YEAR AROUND,not just now..call an elder, write a letter,go shopping for them,…cook or bake them something..little things make a big difference for someone..you can make a difference in ONE person’s life
Stop complaining and thinking about YOU,make a difference and keep doing it all year around

  4. Does WIC or food stamps not exist anymore?

I have kids and I know I must feed them even I have to use WIC to do it, I don’t understand, can someone explain?

  5. What about seniors? The senior center doesn’t deliver meals unless your disable. The children AND the seniors should both be fed. The food banks are picked thru an only have entails and bananas.

    1. Agree with our SENIOR. So many of these folks have been patrons of these restaurants & especially Santa Few Cafe. These seniors are appreciative & it would be great to look out for them. Most of all many are not capable of cooking any longer. After all these are the Guys & Gals that built our country & already made many sacrifices. Everyone let’s take care of our seniors whether it’s calling them, driving them, grocery shopping, cooking, give them a good laugh, offer to pay for lawn care & housekeeper. The need is endless! You will be thanked many ways in return.

    2. WOW!!!!! These local establishments are doing this out of their own pockets, they are the most effected out of this whole situation. Now you wanna say hey what about this group or that group? All the restaurants deliver right now, order it from them and support them. If you are on SSI nothing has changed for you, except you will get a little more money hopefully, so why now do people want more? You should be telling these people thank you instead of complaining, get up or make calls and figure out how to get it done for yourself! Shame on you for being so selfish and wanting YOURS ALSO!

    3. This was done by restaurants out of the goodness of their hearts and in a direct response to the mandatory closure of the Brenham ISD food distributions due to COVID-19. Obviously children that can’t earn a paycheck can’t possibly be expected to make up for these meals themselves and I don’t expect restaurants who are already strapped for cashflow to provide free meals for them AND for seniors that no longer receive meals at the senior center. Sometimes people do have to plan ahead for the unexpected and for themselves. I volunteer for 2 different food distribution sites in my local community and all I can say is if you can afford to put the gas in your vehicle to get to a food bank, then you probably have the means to get some sort of food for yourself. I wouldn’t complain about the food banks being “picked through” either. This isn’t something that is mandatory for them to provide for you at this time. This is a service of generosity and charity. I’m sure that if you are hungry enough, a couple of green or bruised bananas will make plenty for a good meal.

    4. The senior center has been delivering meals to seniors who are homebound and who qualify financially—and they continue to do so. They are also, temporarily, providing (and delivering if needed) a limited amount of groceries weekly to senior center *members only* who request this service.

  6. Love My town! Remember these names and let’s all make this up to them. They are hurting for business yet give freely. Support these businesses extra as you can!

  7. BRENHAM STRONG! Thank you to all of these local restaurants for opening their kitchens to feed children in our community.

  8. And this is how we (Brenham) do it!!!
Thank you local restaurants for picking up the slack and feeding our children in our community. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! You are all true Hero’s!
