TEXAS A&M AGRILIFE TO OFFER ONLINE TRAINING FOR LOCAL LEADERS ON FEDERAL FUNDING PROCESS
Governor Greg Abbott announced Thursday the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will provide a series of free online training sessions to help local officials understand, acquire, and administer federal COVID-19 assistance.

Local leaders are now able to take the training, which will guide them through financial assistance through the Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act and Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
The training will offer an overview of the funding for local governments, along with the specifics on individual programs. AgriLife Extension agents will be available to assist local leaders with questions throughout the training and subsequent federal funding application process.
In conjunction with the announcement, Abbott, along with Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp and Texas Division of Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd, met Thursday with mayors, county judges, legislators and congressional representatives through a series of calls to walk them through the process and answer questions.
Abbott said the state will continue to work alongside local officials and provide them the resources and support they need as they lead their communities throughout the COVID-19 response. He said these training sessions will help local leaders in “efficiently navigating the federal funding process”, while ensuring that communities “receive the financial support they need in a timely manner”.
