Support has been pouring in for a Caldwell family after their son, a member of the U.S. Navy, tested positive last week for COVID-19.

Dillon Narro, a 2018 graduate of Caldwell High School, has been stationed on the USS Roosevelt as a fireman.  However, after contracting the virus—becoming one of the over 850 sailors aboard the aircraft carrier to do so—he was moved from the ship onto a base in Guam to be housed with the other positive cases.

Dillon’s mother, Holly Narro, said he left for deployment on the USS Roosevelt in January, and contacted her the last week of March to tell her the ship was porting in Guam due to the number of positive cases on board.  Considered essential personnel, and testing negative for the virus the first time he was tested, it was only last week that he was moved from the ship after testing positive.

Holly said she recently talked with Dillon over the phone, saying he is still feeling relatively healthy and trying to keep a positive mindset.

Holly said her family is very appreciative of the love and support being given to them from others in the community.

According to the U.S. Navy, as of Friday, approximately 856 of the ship’s 4,845 sailors—over 17 percent—have tested positive for COVID-19.  Sailors on the ship first tested positive last month after a port call to Da Nang, Vietnam.
