The Dolphins issued a statement saying that Shula died "peacefully at his home."

Shula won 347 games, including playoffs, an NFL-record.

In 1972, he coached the Dolphins to the league's only 17-0 undefeated season, culminated by a 14-7 victory over the Washington in Super Bowl VII.

The Dolphins became back-to-back champs the following year, defeating the Viking 24-7 in Super Bowl VIII.

In all, Shula led five teams to the Super Bowl, including the 1968 Colts, 1982 Dolphins and 1984 Dolphins.

Only two of Shula’s Dolphins teams finished under .500 in 26 season.  His career record is 328-156.  He and George Halas are the only coaches in NFL history to win more than 300 games.  Shula was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1997.

Don Shula is carried off the field after the Dolphins' Super Bowl win over Washington.
